Hydroponics has been around since ancient times and is growing in popularity. Hydroponics comes from the Greek words "Hydro" meaning water and "Ponics" which is working. There are many types of systems, and techniques for growing hydroponically. I have grown with all different types. The main purpose of this site is to give you some infomation about how everything works. So if your just beginning or advanced maybe you can get some tips from this site so you don't make any of the mistakes I did when I was trying to figure it out years ago. The most popular systems used are Ebb and Flow, NFT (nutrient film technique), Drip, and Aeroponic. Ebb and Flow systems, flood by either a pump or gravity then drain back to a resevoir. Drip systems can incorporate a fish pump or aquarium powerhead. NFT can run a stream of nutrient and the roots hang down into it. Aeroponic systems include high pressure sprayers or spinners. Most wick systems are made up of cloth, vermiculite, or peat moss.
